Adventures with Maps

Don't stand on the sidelines - orienteering is a sport that the whole family can participate in and enjoy together. If you want to be more than a chauffeur, caterer or clothes washer, get outdoors with a map. Every event offers a different adventure: choose yours!

Tunstall Junction

Friday, 19 December 2014

It was a great turnout to Tunstall Junction, a map which straddles the Eastern Freeway in Nunawading.  The first decision is always north or south of the freeway? The flatter south was favoured by people on the shorter courses, but Bernie didn't make the decisions easy for anyone.  A welcome bonus was the chilled choccies being handed out by special guest Sant-O-Claus.

In a first for this summer, Andrew H beat Bruce back on A course. They were followed by Peter H, Sam, and Bryan.  There was another surprise on B with Aidan pushing Lanita into second. Tim, Martin and Carolyn were next best.  In a good night for the family, Oliver and Darryl were the quickest on C course ahead of Janine, Reg and Robyn.  On D, Asha came in ahead of Torren, Mason, Tony and Peter G.  Noel won E course from Sophie and SantO (who was weighed down by chocolate treats at the start, but sped up as he made his distribution to random orienteers - all of whom have been very very good!)  On PW it was very close, with Len pipping Ron by a point, and Mark pipping Helen by a point.

Week 9 was quite stable overall. The only change in any A division was in A3 where Arthur moved up to third.  On B1, Peter M, Stephen and Lanita all moved up a place, but there were no other changes.  Darryl moved into second place on C1 between Janine and David, and Prue and Libby switched places on C3.  There was a change on D1 where Mason took the overall lead but is only one point clear of Torren, with Pete now third; no changes on D2 or E.

Things have switched around on PW1 with Mark now out in front, and Ron and Len tied for second.  On PW2, Sandy moved into second spot. Ian and Lauris both moved up a place on PW3, and there were no changes on PW4 or PW5.

As we move into the Christmas-New Year period, and with a number of people down in Tassie for Oceania, opportunities will open up, so make sure you keep coming along to take advantage!

Next week's event at Mitcham will have a special theme for you to enjoy on Christmas Eve.  A good hard run or walk is exactly what you need before the indulgences of the big day!
