This map is clearly divided by Ferntree Gully Road, which also marks a divide in the terrain.  To the south it's pretty much flat, but head north and you are climbing immediately - and it can be a long grind!  People were dropping controls like flies (or was that just me??)  The field seemed quite evenly split over the north-south debate.  A longish course meant only the top eight runners got the lot, with Paul, Tim and Steven the fastest three.  On B, Tim fended off a challenge from James, while Jay snuck into third ahead of Nick, Peter D and Bruce.  Tony took out PW with 57 points, ahead of Dave on 55, the two Marks on 50, and Michael on 49.

Ian took the lead on A1, just a handful of points ahead of Paul and Tim - I think this series is going to be another very close one!  Rick gained 6 points over Hugh to move into outright first on A2, while Martin is now firmly into third place.  Vanessa and Lauris lead A3 with Roger now third. Tim is way out in front on B1, Bruce is second and Peter D third.  I've grabbed first on B2 ahead of Pete and Greg, while Libby extended her B3 lead over John and Suzy. No change on PW1 for Dave, Helen and Mark; Ilze moved up to third on PW2 behind Kay and Bernie.  Noel put more distance between himself and the rest on PW3, but Mike is only three points clear of Pat.  Bev and Di swapped places behind Suzanne on PW4.

See you next Wednesday at Bulleen Ups and Downs.

Eastern Series Information

About this series:

Where: Eastern suburbs of Melbourne

When: 7:00pm Wednesdays; all year round

Cost:  $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors (under 21)

What to bring: jogging/walking shoes and comfortable, light coloured clothing.  Bring a watch, a drink, and a torch for winter events (late March-mid October).

Please arrive 20-30 minutes early. This will provide time to help you register for the event and explain how to take part.

Groups (schools, scouts, sports or social) are extremely welcome, but please contact us at least a week prior to the event so we can ensure enough maps are printed.

In winter, there are 2 courses for runners.  These are Score format, where you visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time, with the aim of earning as many points as possible.  Times are 60 mins or 45 mins.  There is also a 60 min Score course for Power Walkers.

In summer, there are 5 runners courses ranging from 2.5-10 km, and a 60 minute power walkers' course.  For runners the format is Scatter (visit a designated number of controls in any order, first back wins), and for power walkers the format is Score format (visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time).
