Academy Hill

Wednesday, 1 March 2017

Mondays have seemed to feature climactic variations this year.  Academy Hill was HOT.  Course setter Hugh gave us a tricky layout, and stretched the course lengths a bit, so it was a tough one both physically and mentally - a good final tuneup before the Champs (unless like me you had already entered the tapering/carbo loading phase ...)

The big points on A course went to Ted, Steven and Ian.    On B, the winners were Ian, Andrew and Jay.  Rick, Tony and Andrew were quickest on C, and Mark brought Denise's winning streak to an end on D, with Ray claiming third.  PW honours went to Dave, Roger and Helen.

This was the penultimate scoring event for the series, so what are the scenarios?  A1 will not change for Andrew, Ian and Steven. On A2, Warwick has a chance at beating Rick, but he needs to score 96 and have Rick score 94 or less; Ian G will finish in third either way.  B looks like a certain win for Jay and second for Andrew, but Lauris will be waiting anxiously to see if Mark completes his 11th event and claims third.   Ian D has C1 sewn up; Reg is just three points ahead of Jenny, but if Tony runs C next week he will take second and push the other two down a notch.  C2 has been a fascinating three way battle for second, with Stuart entrenched as winner. Murray now has a one point advantage over Margi and Greg who are tied; mathematically, Peter and Eric could also claim second or third!

The outcome on D course all hinges on whether Denise competes next week; if she does, she will take the overall lead from me, moving Robert down to third.  PW1 is settled for Dave, Michael H and Helen.  Bernie and Annie will take the top two spots on PW2, but Allan's third place is under threat from  Gwennyth and Lara.  PW3 will go to Ian S, Ilze, and Suzanne.

Next Monday's event is at Camelot Rise in Glen Waverley, where final outcomes will be decided once and for all!  Don't forget that series prizes will be awarded on WEDNESDAY March 15, at the BBQ and Awards Night in Ringwood East. It's an occasion not to be missed!

Monday Night Series

About this series:

Where: Southern and eastern suburbs of Melbourne

When: 7:00pm Mondays; all year round

Cost:  $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors (under 21)

What to bring: jogging/walking shoes and comfortable, light coloured clothing.  Bring a watch, a drink, and a torch for winter events (late March-mid October).

Please arrive 20-30 minutes early. This will provide time to help you register for the event and explain how to take part.

Groups (schools, scouts, sports or social) are extremely welcome, but please contact us at least a week prior to the event so we can ensure enough maps are printed.

In summer (October-March), there are 4 runners courses ranging from 3.5-10 km, and a 60 minute power walkers' course.  For runners the format is Scatter (visit a designated number of controls in any order, first back wins), and for power walkers the format is Score format (visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time).

Enquiries: tel 0409 959 673 (Annie)

In winter (March-October), there are 25 controls marked on the map.  Choose one of two formats - a 60 minute Score course (visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time, aiming to score as many points as possible), or a "Target" course, where you aim to achieve a target score between 4 and 36 points.

Enquiries: 0409 135 020 (Debbie)
