Camelot Rise

Tuesday, 7 March 2017

The final scoring event for the Southern series was held on the northern (ie hilly) section of Camelot Rise.  There was a very tempting cluster of controls in the centre which was pretty much mandatory for anyone; the big question was how to deal with the rest of the course? In my case the answer was - badly!  I added 500 unnecessary metres, but the shortest option was anything but obvious so good job by Ian to fool most of us.

Winners were Andrew, Ian and Ted on A course, Andrew, Tony and Jay on B course, Ian, Ray and Stuart on C course, Denise, Bryan and Reg on D course, and Michael, Helen and Garry on PW.  The all important question was how did the overall results finally settle? As predicted, A1 went to Andrew with a perfect score, followed by Ian and Steven.  On A2, Warwick pulled off a last minute victory with a one point margin to Rick, and Ian G in third.  Jay, Andrew and Lauris took out the top three on B course.  Ian was another perfect scorer on C course after notching his 11th win; Reg retained his second place with a 3 point margin over Jenny.

Those following these reports will know that C2 has been ever so close, with a three way fight behind Stuart, between Margi, Greg and Murray. After the final event, we ended with a three way tie for second!  On D, Denise duly completed her 11th event, taking first place ahead of me and Robert.  PW1 went to Dave on a perfect 1100, ahead of Michael just 3 points in arrears, and Helen in third.  Bernie S was a comfortable winner on PW2, Annie was second, and Allan hung on to third.   PW3 was won by Ian S, Ilze, and Suzanne.

Next Monday's event is at Glenhuntly Gallop in Caulfield. To celebrate the end of the Southern Series, there is a dinner afterwards at a nearby restaurant.  Certificates will be presented next Wednesday (March 15) at the Awards Night and BBQ.

What to bring: jogging/walking shoes and comfortable, light coloured clothing.  Bring a watch, a drink, and a torch for winter events (late March-mid October).

Groups (schools, scouts, sports or social) are extremely welcome, but please contact us at least a week prior to the event so we can ensure enough maps are printed.

In summer (October-March), there are 4 runners courses ranging from 3.5-10 km, and a 60 minute power walkers' course.  For runners the format is Scatter (visit a designated number of controls in any order, first back wins), and for power walkers the format is Score format (visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time).

In winter (March-October), there are 25 controls marked on the map.  Choose one of two formats - a 60 minute Score course (visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time, aiming to score as many points as possible), or a "Target" course, where you aim to achieve a target score between 4 and 36 points.
