Waverley Parklands

Friday, 9 June 2017

We gathered at the usual start at the very top of the hill. Unfortunately we had nuisance rain with a brisk shower hitting right at 7pm.  This gave people a good excuse to pause for thought, which we needed to do as Stan had given us plenty to think about. As always, top of mind was which is the least worst way to climb up the hill to get back to the finish?  And as always, the answer was, they are all bad!  So the best thing to do was to enjoy the early downhills, and treat the latter part of the course as "character building".

Vic managed to achieve all 9 targets, followed by Ray and Lauris with 8 apiece - though Ian also got 8 and was back in time to qualify on the Short course (return by 7.45).  Ian S, Pete, and Dave all power walked their way to 5 targets each. On the score course, Andrew, Bruce, Rick and Warwick all scored 100 points, while Suzanne was an easy winner on PW with 41 points.

There are only 3 weeks to go in Series 1.  With your best 9 scores to count towards the chocolate, you need at least 6 events by now to have a chance.  On the Long Target course, Vic leads with 794 points from Lauris and Ray. David P is a whisker off a place.  On the Short course, Ian D has managed to beat the clock 6 times.  Ros leads PW from Henk and Pete, but Phil is unbeaten in his 7 events to date so will move to the top with 2 more events.

On Runners Score, Warwick has a 2 point lead over Roger, with Stuart in third, but watch out for a late charge from Andrew and Rick. Dave is unbeatable on PW, Gwennyth is second and Suzanne third, with Michael looking likely to grab a place.

We know the lure of chocolate is what keeps us all coming along on winter nights, so keep up the momentum, and join us next Monday at Rooks Run in Nunawading.

Monday Night Series

About this series:

Where: Southern and eastern suburbs of Melbourne

When: 7:00pm Mondays; all year round

Cost:  $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors (under 21)

What to bring: jogging/walking shoes and comfortable, light coloured clothing.  Bring a watch, a drink, and a torch for winter events (late March-mid October).

Please arrive 20-30 minutes early. This will provide time to help you register for the event and explain how to take part.

Groups (schools, scouts, sports or social) are extremely welcome, but please contact us at least a week prior to the event so we can ensure enough maps are printed.

In summer (October-March), there are 4 runners courses ranging from 3.5-10 km, and a 60 minute power walkers' course.  For runners the format is Scatter (visit a designated number of controls in any order, first back wins), and for power walkers the format is Score format (visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time).

Enquiries: tel 0409 959 673 (Annie)

In winter (March-October), there are 25 controls marked on the map.  Choose one of two formats - a 60 minute Score course (visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time, aiming to score as many points as possible), or a "Target" course, where you aim to achieve a target score between 4 and 36 points.

Enquiries: 0409 135 020 (Debbie)
