KOOYOORA WOC 85 REVISTED, TUES 22 – THURS 24 APRIL 2025

It’s 40 years since the World Orienteering Championship (WOC) came to Australia and was held at legendary Kooyoora near Inglewood.

To mark this occasion a selection of courses will be set on the Kooyoora map incorporating
control sites and legs from the WOC courses. You’ll be able to compare your split times with those of the 1985 WOC champions and compare times and routes with your rivals in Livelox.

If you are planning on being in the Loddon Shire / Bendigo region between the Australian 3
Days and the Victorian Champs, consider this activity. This is a DIY activity. No infrastructure or officials will be present. Please keep groups to less than thirty people if you are planning to meet up and do a course at the same place and
time.

Map pack sales are now CLOSED – pick yours up from the Info Centre at Easter.

ANZAC WEEKEND – VIC CHAMPS X 3!  FRIDAY APRIL 25 – SUNDAY APRIL 27

The Anzac Weekend features three days of unrivalled orienteering:

  • Friday 25 April – Victorian Short Distance Championships, Andersons Diggings, Dunolly
  • Saturday 26 April – Victorian Middle Distance Championships, Wehla Hill (near Kooyoora)
  • Sunday 27 April – Victorian Long Distance Championships, Mt Korong

The maps are equal in quality to those selected for Easter. Courses have been planned by a who’s who of Victorian orienteering – Jim Russell, Aston Key, and Neil Barr.  Excitement guaranteed!

  • Kick off with the Vic Shorts – two short distance races with a chasing start in the afternoon, on gravel pit terrain adjacent to open, fast spur gully.
  • Move onto the Vic Middle – featuring the same dramatic granite as Kooyoora, minus the heavier vegetation.
  • Finish on a high at the Vic Long – an extension of the wonderful Korong Spur map; Victoria’s best kept orienteering secret is now large enough to showcase to a larger audience.

All three events will be catered by the delicious offerings of My Cake Kitchen – enjoy their sandwiches, rolls, wraps, salads, cakes and coffee.

EASTER 3 DAY FINAL ENTRIES ARE CLOSED

The Australian 3 Days program offers a variety of terrain types, covering mining, spur gully and granite. We have put together a program for people to enjoy as well as test abilities across a variety of terrains, and with a comprehensive list of classes there is something for everyone.

Friday features a forest sprint to start the weekend, then the 3-Days competition will consist of 3 shortened long-distance courses, one on each day. If you can’t make all the races, then there is the opportunity to enter individual days.

Elite competitors will run the standard NOL Easter format, with two of the events being World Ranking ones.

LOOKING AT CAMPING? SPOTS STILL AVAILABLE

The Newbridge Recreation Reserve is our suggested camping area. The reserve has a large area for camping, either river frontage or further back within the reserve grounds. Its size means it is possible for orienteers to collect in one area. The reserve provides affordable camping with toilet and shower facilities.

The reserve is close to the Newbridge General Store for supplies and the Newbridge Hotel for meals. However, these will not be able to cater for large numbers and participants looking at camping here should be prepared to cook their own meals or drive 20 – 30 minutes to the nearest supermarket and other eating out options. Camping is $10 per night per tent site, and $15 per nite per van site.
