Vics Dominate at Easter Prologue

The 2021 Easter Prologue was held in perfect conditions at CSU Campus in Orange.  While not the most technical sprint, there was challenge for the legs in the slopes, and a variety of terrain.

Victoria dominated the Mens Elite, taking the trifecta with Aston Key leading Patrick Jaffe by 31 seconds, and Brodie Nankervis running in Vic colours in third, just 4 seconds behind in a very tight race for the  podium places. In Womens Elite, Aislinn Prendergast and Asha Steer were just outside the top 10.  In the M20 field, Jensen Key and Brody McCarthy finished 5th and 7th respectively.

But it was the new Junior Elite (M/W18) that produced some exciting results for Victoria, with Callum White a convincing winner by 1 min 23 seconds, and Torren Arthur taking third place.  allum’s win, his first at this level, was even more impressive given his age – not quite 17 – and the fact that he would have finished 3rd in M20, and 11th in M21.  Milla Key, also running up well above her age group, was almost 3 minutes clear of teammate Sophie Taverna as they took first and second place in two very strong performances.  Overall, wins for Victoria in 3 out of the 6 elite classes, and the future looking bright!

We also had some excellent results in the age classes. Craig Feuerherdt and Simon Rouse, perennial rivals, took out 2nd and 3rd in Mens Long, with Tim Hatley not far behind in 7th (out of 65 competitors). Mel Gangemi was also second on Womens Long.  Mens Middle saw Geoff Armstrong a brilliant 2nd, and very strong results from James Love in 4th, Bruce Paterson in 5th and Cormac McCarthy in 7th; in the Womens Middle, Wendy Taverna was also 7th from a large field of over 70.
