Geelong Street-O - Rippleside Ramble
Rippleside Park was the start point for last Thursdays 3rd event of the Geelong Street-O summer series.
Many years ago it was literally a tip, but is now a pleasant park with a great playground. It’s a tough course to set – being long and narrow – with the highway and railway with its limited crossing points, bisecting the map.
However the foreshore trails are a great reward with magnificent views of Corio Bay. Our course setter, Heather L, incorporated all the best features of the map (did you know about the Naval Museum and the history of Lunan House as a teacher training facility ??) and delivered a course that still gave plenty of navigational choices. Well done !!
Luke was absent for A grade this week, but other A-grade runners were on hand to give the rest of us the chance to watch and marvel. On this occasion it was Ron T first home ahead of Tony McR, with Mark C, Ed S, and Andrew D enjoying their run.
The stars were aligned on my side for this event. For the first time in a zillion years – maybe ever !! – I was first home ahead of Glenn M, Joel W and Sofie van G.
Taron and Steve P have well and truly established themselves in C grade, leading home Melissa B with Geoff L ignoring the voice of his protesting body coming in next.
Peter B had a good run in D grade, finishing ahead of Anthe and Natasha P. It was good to see Celestine and Jeanette back for a run.
I look forward to checking the walkers results each week, with a close contests building for the series. This week it was Tom F on 57 points that did just enough to take the honours over Fiona K (56 pts), with Lynda McM and Elna E next (54 pts). Meanwhile Kathy W and Denise S enjoyed their walk and reminiscing about their early teacher training !!
This coming Thursday we start from South Geelong PS, South Geelong at 7pm. For we true believers this is the Heartland, as the course encompasses Kardinia Park, home to the mighty Cats and scene of many a great victory !! I’ll try to keep a lid on it …..
